Pre-Transformers MC-10 CASSETTE MAN Robot 1983 Takara

OMG! It’s only Cassette Man… a super powerful autonomous AI robot who can disguise itself as a mini micro cassette player! Really! This is the excellent pre-Transformers MC-10 who later became the historic Decepticon Soundwave. Rare and unusual item that Hasbro ripped the whole Transformers idea from

  • Mini Change Series
  • Micro Change Robot
  • MC-10 Cassette Man with all parts and accessories
  • Taiwan Takara c.1983

MicroForever! says:

Takara released MC-10 as part of the New Microman Micro Change Series in 1983. Micro Change were a series of Microman robots and vehicles that can disguise themselves as ordinary household items. In the case of MC-10 he was a Micro Change Robot disguised as a “Walkman” style portable cassette player. It came with clear plate that can be opened so the Micro Change Mini-Cassette can be placed inside

Cassette Man was the second largest robot in the Micro Change series that were released by Takara. It was also probably the most recognizable one next to the MC-13 UNCLE Gun Robo since this toy would eventually became one of the more popular Transformer toy – the Decepticon: Soundwave. (MC-13 became the infamous Megatron) The Deception symbol was base on Soundwave head. Soundwave version of the toy has “Cassette Man” and the “MC-10” designation removed from the chest

DAN DARE PLANET GUN 1950s Space Eagle Comics Merit Vintage Sci Fi

This crazy 1950s issue of the Dan Dare Planet Gun inspired by jet fighter curves crossed with the colours of a cricket pitch, the ball and scoreboard numbers. Vintage futuristic plastic space gun complete with set of three deadly spinner projectiles. Box has colourful action packed comic book art showing whirling weapon wielding, spacesuit-clad Dare watched by technologically advanced reptilian aliens via view screen. It’s not made clear how the spinning projectiles are meant to work but it’s odds-on that the vortex caused by spinning so hard literally creates a mini dimensional fabric rip (or FabRip… as most people call them these days). Clearly if that happened in close proximity to an enemy alien the result could be very messy. Indeed, operators should remember to mind their fingers near the weapon’s moving parts

You don’t even need batteries to operate this baby! It runs on an ingenious spring system (that could probably actually really replace nuclear power as an energy source) and pure nostalgia

Set includes:

  • Hard plastic spring-loaded “Planet Gun” 4.5″ long
  • Three plastic rotors/saucers 3″ diameter
  • Illustrated box 7″ x 11″ x 2.25 inch deep

There appear to have been three combinations of colours for the various parts. This is a very sporty black green and red version carrying the wording

  • Planet Gun
  • Dan Dare name and logo (a circle with a vertical oval inside)
  • Inter-Planet Space Fleet
  • A Merit Toy

Comes with advice note warning only to use this gun when you are actually in space (which sort of supports my whole fabric ripping hole theory):

CAUTION
When winding do not exceed 8 CLICKS
Do not overwind stupid

Do not fire point blank at any target but fire only into space!

To achieve best results apply a few drops of light oil to the spinner spindle and a touch of Vaseline around the slots on the underside of the spinner hub

Made way back in 1950s England by J & L Randall Ltd/ Merit with permission of Eagle Comics the publisher of British Dan Dare sci-fi stories. What does Wikipedia say about Dan’s spacey history?
